The traditional scraping tool näskäin is fundamental equipment for tanners, used for scraping clean game and fish skins by removing fat, meat, and membranes. This excellent tool is suitable for tanning small predators and small game as well as fish skins.
The unique näskäin tools from the Traditional Tanning Shop are handcrafted in Finland. The blades are forged at the Taidetakomo Seppä Kahiluoto workshop in Åbo, and the birch wood handles and final touches are made at the Rödmossa Snickeri workshop in Kimitoön.
The tool’s design is the work of master tanner Hanna Nore, author of Tanning Game and Fish Leather. The handle is ergonomically shaped to fit comfortably in the hand. The surface treatment with wood oil and pigment makes the tool highly resistant to moisture and dirt. The design is completed with a beautiful copper ferrule.
Näskäin tools are available in four colorways:
- Tar (dark wood)
- Moss Green (green)
- Linseed (light wood)
- Carbon Black (black)
