How the New Edition of Tanning Game Was Crafted

Hanna Nore

It’s hard to believe it’s already been three years since we first sent Tanning Game out into the world!

The first edition, published in 2022, was truly a leap of faith. After my book Nahan jäljillä, published in Finnish by Readme.fi in 2021, I started receiving messages from all corners of the world—people asking if there would ever be an English version. So, with a small team of trusted friends, we decided to make it happen. No big publishers, no middlemen—just a lot of heart, hard work, and good old Finnish sisu.

Seeing that first truckload of books arrive at my doorstep in Kimitoön was unforgettable.

Each hardcover copy was shipped by hand from my home to readers around the globe—one by one. From Sweden to the United States and as far as Australia, every shipment was a reminder of the global community passionate about keeping old skills alive.

Now, three years later, it was time to revisit the work with the same dedication to quality and authenticity.

For this second edition, we’ve gone through the text with fresh eyes—polishing the language, clarifying terms, and even adding imperial measurements for easier use worldwide. A heartfelt thank you goes to Richard Ricketts, whose invaluable help made the re-editing and fine-tuning of the text possible. The core content remains the same, but you might notice a smoother read in places. And to make the book more affordable and easier to ship, this new edition is now available as a paperback.

Since last autumn and the launch of Fish Leather, we’ve teamed up with Bookvault to get our books into readers’ hands more efficiently.

Bookvault prints our books on demand in the UK and ships them directly to your doorstep. This means lower shipping costs compared to sending books from a remote island in Finland—and faster delivery too. Both we and our customers have been delighted with the print quality and service. We’re happy to have found such a smart, cost-effective way to make our books accessible to tanners and readers everywhere.

We hope this updated edition of Tanning Game finds its way into the hands of tanners around the world.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
